Why Wash with a cup? Well, its the ritual way of washing the hand. We do it like this...
- Fill up the cup with cold water
- Pass the cup from your right hand to your left hand
- Pour the water onto your right hand then pass the cup to your right hand
- Pour the water onto your left hand then pass the cup to your left hand
- Pour the water onto your right hand then pass the cup to your right hand
- Pour the water onto your left hand then pass the cup to your left hand
- Pour the water onto your right hand then pass the cup to your right hand
- Pour the water onto your left hand then pass the cup to your left hand
- Scrub your hands together and say the above prayer
- Dry your hands and your all done
You should do this proceedure...
- As soon as you wake up
- After using the toilet or entering into a bathroom or washroom (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
- Before eating bread
- Before praying (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
- After cutting your hair (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
- After cutting your nails (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
- After scratching your scalp (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
- After touching your shoes (but then you dont say the prayer, just wash)
Can you wash your hands with soap before doing this. If you like, it's allways good to
have clean hands. You see, the reason for the ritual washing is not to clean off the
infectious germs, its to clean of the spiritual germs which like to stick to our finger tips.
Remember this: You should never say a prayer with Hashems name in it, like the one above, in a toilet or washroom,
or in garbage yard, or any other place where there is somthing that is not clean. Even in a place that only smells bad
you should not say these prayers.
