Bresheet 4:1
Now the man had known his wife Chava, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have acquired a man with Hashem."

Rashi on 4:1 Now the man had known:
already, prior to the above topic, before he sinned and was driven out of the Garden of Eden. And so too,
the pregnancy and the birth. for if it had written, "Now Adam knew" we would hear that after he had been
driven out he had children. [the word knew   ,
as in the past tense, represents that which was explained before. Adam Knew "had known"... before the sin, and before the punishment of
being removed from the Garden.]
Rashi on 4:1 Cain:
Which is derived from "I have acquired a man." [from the word Kainiti, I a have acquired (a man)]
Rashi on 4:1 With Hashem:
as in "with Hashem" "When He created me and my husband, He created us by Himself, but in this, we are partners with Him.

Rashi on 4:1 Cain... his brother abel:
The three appearances of the word Et  in this verse are amplifications.
This teaches that a twin girl was born with Cain, and with Abel there were born two, this is why it says, "and she added."
[The words ET and GAM almost always point to an amplification within Scripture, just as the words ACH and RAK point to a diminution.
The word ET has many profound significance’s, it generally means "the" but since we are dealing with the Holy Tongue, and, as those who
are more knowledgeable with the esoteric, understand that the creation was made with just such utterances (you may read more on this within
this website in GAMMATRIA, CHUMASH TIPS, TANYA), we understand that the ET may also be a symbol for all possibilities, since it is the
first and last letters of the alephbet. As in "from A to Z". Therefore, reviewing our verse we will see that the ET is used twice with
reference to Abel and only once with Cain. As in... one sister was born with Cain and two with Abel. Also, it is written of Chava "and she
added, giving birth..." when it could have said simply "and she gave birth...", but rather this is hinting to the fact that an
addition was added to Abel. As in, she added onto that which she already had with Cain.]

Bresheet 4:2
And she added, giving birth to his brother Abel, Abel became a herder of flocks, while Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Rashi on 4:2 A hearder of flocks:
Since the earth had been cursed, he separated himself from its work. [Rashi is alluding to the verb VAYHI and HAYA in our verse. We see that
later on, with Esau and Jacob the same verb of being, VAYHI, is used, but in our text there are two forms of the verb used. Adam was ordered by
Hashem to work the ground, but Abel became a shepherd and Cain remained a worker of the cursed ground. This is Rashi's explanation of
the use of the two verbs in our verse... VAYHI and HAYA.]

Bresheet 4:3
After a period of time, Cain brought an offering to Hashem of the fruit of the ground

Rashi on 4:3 of the fruit of the ground:
From the poorest. There is an aggadah which says it was flax seed. [to indicate the poorest quality].

Bresheet 4:4
and as for Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and from their choicest. And Hashem turned to Abel and to his offering,

Rashi on 4:4 And Hashem turned:
and he turned. And similarly, "and to his offering he did not turn" And similarly, "Let them not turn." And similarly, "Turn away from him."
[Rashi quotes various uses of the word in scripture, even in reference to other commentaries which he made on it in later chapters... We will
not amplify on this now].
Rashi on 4:4 And Hashem turned:
Fire descended and scorched his offering. [Since Cain was angry at the acceptance of his brothers sacrifice, he must have visually seen a divine action].
